Modern medical treatments for multiple sclerosis include anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive drugs and steroids to suppress the immune system. These can suppress the immune system, slow down the progress of the disease but do not offer any complete cure. Alternate therapies include magnetic therapies, reflexology treatments etc. which has varied and mixed results. Ayurveda treatment in India is seen as highly effective treatment with a high success rate.
While modern medical treatments include immunosuppressive drugs and steroids to suppress the immune system which also caused side effects, the traditional Indian medical system of Ayurveda offers effective treatment for MS.
Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is an auto immune disorder classified typically as a demyelinating disease because it directly impacts the myelin in the central nervous system. Myelin is the protective sheath that covers the nerve fibres in the nervous system. The name Multiple Sclerosis is from the nature of the disease wherein multiple sclera (lesions) are formed in the white part of the brain. MS is the most common auto immune disease that affects the nervous system. The disease is seen to be more prevalent in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand and is seen more in women than in men. Typical symptoms include loss of co-ordination, loss of sensation, double vision, blindness in one eye etc.
